In case you didn’t catch my Instagram feed blow-up: We went to Cowboy Mardi Gras this past weekend, and almost needless to say with those words put together- it was so much fun! Although Mardi Gras is traditionally done by those over in that coastal area of Louisiana, when you give us Texans a party theme- we’ll probably do it bigger (and maybe better).
So, should you happen to find yourself in the San Antonio, Texas area during the next Mardi Gras time- I strongly suggest moseying on over to the little weekend town of Bandera. (The town has a resident population of 861- until Friday afternoons when it can skyrocket up to the thousands.)
Cowboy Mardi Gras was originally started by the famous 11th Street Bar – which they argue is the ‘Biggest Little Bar in Texas’.

This year’s festivity marked the 11th annual Cowboy Mardi Gras! Each year there is Cajun food cooked by food trucks hauled in from Louisiana, Costume Contests, Live Zydeco and Country Music, and the ever-anticipated Mardi Gras Parade. This year marked the first Gumbo cook off- and man did that food look good.
The parade however, is the topper on this cake of awesomeness- there are SO many floats and participants! I mean, there were TWO sets of tame Longhorns that were saddled and ridden!

The whole weekend long, everyone is out and about, and dressed in their most flashy variations of purple, green, and yellow- trying their utmost to outdo their do from the previous year.

This year’s performing artists were Rusty Metoyer and Zydeco Krush, Fred Rusk and the Zydeco Hi-steppers, Jeff Woolsey and the Dance Hall Kings, CMA Award Winner Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners, 53rd Grammy Award Winner Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, and Five Card Draw!
(In case you don’t know much about Zydeco music – they tend to utilize kitchenware! You’ll see artists playing songs with the accompaniment of spoons, whisks, washboards, and the like!)
Cowboy Mardi Gras is some good Canjun-turned-Texan fun, and you just don’t wanna miss it!
P.S.
Stay tuned for some exciting (hunting related) news coming soon! I just can’t hardly wait to tell y’all!
